Cooking and Recreational Fires

Subject to MA General Law Ch. 148 S. 13 and MA DEP Open Burning Regulations 310 CMR 7.07

Massachusetts Fire Safety Code 527 CMR 1

10.10.1.1 Fires for cooking and recreational purposes shall comply with provisions of MA General Law c. 148 s. 13 and the rules and regulations of the State Forester and regulations of Department of Environment Protection.

10.10.2 The AHJ shall have the authority to prohibit any and or all open flames, candles, and open, recreational or cooking fires or other sources of ignition, or establish regulations on the use of any form of fire or smoking material where circumstances make such condition hazardous.

Allowable Fires

The Wakefield Fire Department allows the use of fire pits, chimineas, and outdoor fireplace provided the following conditions are met:

If the Wakefield Fire Department is called to your house for any type of outside fire, we reserve the right to order any fire be extinguished at the Fire officer's discretion.

The above rules do not affect the rules pertaining to permitted open burning season.
